When I set out on my personal health journey to discover how good my body and mind were designed to feel over a decade ago, I had no idea that sleep would be such an essential piece of the puzzle.

In January 2011, I embarked on a two and half month backpack trip through Europe which changed the course of my life. I was on course to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy and it was on my adventure that I had time to really think about what I wanted and who I wanted to be.

After doing some deep self-reflection, I realized that I wasn’t that passionate about becoming a doctor of physical therapy and decided to decline my acceptance.

Just a few weeks after this decision, I discovered a holistic health coaching program that focused on whole-life wellness and knew I had found my true passion.

This program set me on a 10-year personal journey to discover how to be successful in every part of life and to inspire and lead others to do the same.

I attended personal development seminars, courses, training, and workshops to learn how to live with more energy, purpose, and passion.

I studied and experimented with all the different dietary theories, exercise modalities, and meditation techniques. I put my TV behind the couch and began reading hundreds of books on the topics of nutritional science, exercise physiology, stress management, psychology, mindfulness, spirituality, and eventually sleep science.

I discovered that sleep was the missing link. Like most people who sleep well, I didn’t think too much about sleep. I believed that sleep wasn’t that important and that it certainly wasn’t a key to accessing deeper levels of awareness, creativity, intelligence, energy, or mental performance. Sleep was just something I did every night. It wasn’t until a friend reached out and asked me if I had ever helped anyone overcome insomnia that my eyes were finally opened to the power and importance of sleep. I discover that when I was sound asleep my body was actually wide awake.

The strange thing was up until this point in my learning journey, I hadn’t really read or heard that much about sleep. So, like any good student, I bought the top-rated sleep books on Amazon and began reading them. The more I read the more fascinated I became. It turns out that sleep is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain, body, and health each day.

I discovered that getting quality sleep is the way to a more productive, energized, and joyful life because sleep improves every aspect of our lives – our health, relationships, careers, and performance. Sleep truly is one of the best ways we can spend our time to protect our health and our sanity and to accelerate our overall performance.

As I began experimenting with my own sleep and felt the effects of how improving the quality of my nights drastically improved the quality of my days, I got certified as a Sleep Science Coach and founded Sleep Science Academy, which helps high achievers and those suffering from insomnia get and stay asleep using a unique holistic approach based in science.

There are so many factors that affect our health, energy, and performance… from our genetics to the type, quality, and amount of food we consume, to how we move our bodies, how we manage stress, our daily habits; and most importantly, the amount and quality of sleep we get each night.

Health and life can be complicated but through my books, courses, seminars and coaching programs I make health simple. The truth is that most of us are operating way below our capacity. There is another level for you, and to get there you’ll need to rest.
